'Diabetes', a chronic health condition characterized by elevated levels of blood glucose or blood sugar, affects millions of people worldwide. This condition occurs when the body cannot create enough insulin, the hormone responsible for maintaining blood sugar levels, or cannot property use the insulin it does produce. There are two main types - Type 1 and Type 2. Type 1 diabetes is less common and it typically develops before age 20, often in childhood or adolescence. Meanwhile, Type 2 diabetes, which is much more common, usually develops after age 35, but can also occur in younger people, particularly if they are overweight or genetically predisposed. Persistent symptoms of diabetes can include frequent urination, excessive thirst, sudden weight loss, fatigue and blurred vision. If not managed properly, the condition can lead to severe complications, including heart disease, kidney damage and vision loss.
